12-for-12 Spiritual Formation Groups

What is 12-for-12?

12-for-12 is a community of people focused on Christian spiritual formation, the process where we become increasingly transformed and conformed to the person and ways of Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Groups consist of approximately 8-12 people who commit to meeting together once a month for 12 months. These groups are for those with the desire and grace to intentionally reorient their lives around Jesus. The format provides a framework and environment for practicing spiritual exercises and engaging in authentic peer relationships.

12-for-12 Curriculum

The curriculum will follow the book and guide, Practicing The Way: Be with Jesus, Become like him, Do as he did by John Mark Comer. We will also be using the 12-for-12: A Practical Guide for a Year of Spiritual Formation in Community, written by Pastor Andy Saperstein, as an additional resource for the 12-month curriculum.

These books provide the framework, tools, and resources for the monthly meetings and formational practice in between. Each month focuses on a central facet of spiritual formation and provides homework assignments such as readings, prayers, spiritual exercises, and scripture engagement.

12-for-12 participants commit to:

  • Meet once a month for approximately three hours. Regular attendance is important.

  • Complete about 2-4 hours of reading and homework a week (10-15 hours per month).

  • Pray for an assigned group member each month.

  • Read through Practicing The Way by John Mark Comer, 12-for-12: A Practical Guide for a Year of Spiritual Formation in Community, and other books and materials as assigned.

  • Be faithful to practice the spiritual exercises throughout the year.

  • Participate in honest sharing and confidentiality regarding personal matters shared in the group.

  • Faithful in attending their current small group.

  • Contribute to the monthly group meal.

Be assured that 12-for-12 commitments are designed to be sustainable for their members in the face of other life and ministry responsibilities.
